The UN Sustainable Development Goals

How we work with the UN Sustainable Development Goals

The UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals provide a shared international framework for social, economic and environmental development towards 2030. At DS Gruppen, we use selected Sustainable Development Goals as a shared framework for our work on social initiatives, skills development and resource management. We focus particularly on Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), 4 (Quality Education), 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production). We use the goals to describe specific things we do – not as proof that the entire company is sustainable. The companies in the Group each work in their own way with the same four goals, and this is where we are taking concrete action. Below, we describe how our current activities relate to the Sustainable Development Goals. Further down the page, you can read more about each company’s specific work.

Good Health and Well-being (Goal 3)

Good Health and Well-being (Goal 3)

In relation to health and well-being, DS Gruppen supports several organisations that work to promote the mental well-being of children and young people. We prioritise sponsorships that help children and young people, and through our partnerships with organisations including Hobro IK, Rosendal IK, AMBU-festen, Børns Vilkår, headspace, Julemærkehjemmene, Ungdommens Røde Kors and Fonden Bindeleddet, we provide financial support for counselling services, communities and support programmes. Through our sponsorship strategy, we support projects that work directly with young people and whose activities give them access to counselling or safe communities.

Quality Education (Goal 4)

Quality Education (Goal 4)

We also focus on learning and skills development. Across the group, we run activities that give both employees and young people insight into our specialist areas. DS Flexhal runs a networking group for newer employees, where experiences of working life and management are shared. At DS Stålkonstruktion, we offer mentoring schemes for interns and apprentices and regularly welcome visits from students so they can see what the work involves in practice. In addition, DS Elcobyg collaborates with FGU Himmerland on programmes that allow young people who are not in employment or education to try their hand at production tasks.

Decent Work and Economic Growth (Sustainable Development Goal 8)

We also take a targeted approach to the working environment and good working conditions. At DS Gruppen, the working environment is organised through local health and safety groups that make decisions close to day-to-day production operations. We provide training for new employees and continuously work to prevent accidents. DS Stålkonstruktion is certified to ISO 45001, demonstrating that we work in accordance with an international standard for occupational health and safety management. We also continuously explore new technology, including digital measuring and scanning equipment, that can support our work processes.

Responsible Consumption and Production (Sustainable Development Goal 12)

Responsible Consumption and Production (Sustainable Development Goal 12)

Three of our companies have their own production operations, so we also focus on resource consumption and environmental management. Both DS Stålkonstruktion and DS Stålprofil are certified to ISO 14001, which requires a systematic approach to environmental work. Among other materials, DS Stålprofil uses GreenCoat® steel from SSAB, whose coating partly contains bio-based components. At DS Elcobyg, we work to reduce concrete waste wherever possible, including through more accurate calculation methods and by participating in the steering group for the Sustainable Concrete Initiative, where the industry collaborates on new knowledge and developments in concrete construction. In 2025, DS Elcobyg also participated in a research project with other concrete companies to investigate alternative binders for cement and assess their potential to reduce concrete’s carbon footprint.
