An important milestone has been reached on the BAUHAUS project in Tilst, where the office building is now under roof. This was celebrated with a traditional topping-out ceremony beneath the wreath on Thursday, 28 May 2026.

DS Flexhal A/S is responsible for constructing a new office building of approximately 1,680 square metres, a 597-square-metre goods reception area and a Drive-In Centre for BAUHAUS Danmark A/S. The development is being constructed with the aim of achieving DGNB Gold certification and is expected to be completed in November 2026.

The topping-out ceremony began with a welcome from Lars Smedegaard, Project Director at DS Flexhal, followed by a speech on behalf of the client by Carsten Filbært, Head of Construction at BAUHAUS.“

The project is both exciting and significant, not least because our new office headquarters has been designed by ERIK Arkitekter with several fine details and is being constructed using a distinctive fired brick. The office headquarters has many facets and a compelling story, which also reflects why BAUHAUS chose DS Flexhal to build our new head office.

We have set high standards for both quality and craftsmanship, and so far DS Flexhal has met them in full. We therefore look forward to the good work continuing in the next phase. It is also worth highlighting that BAUHAUS has chosen to have the development constructed with the aim of achieving DGNB Gold certification. We are doing this to raise the bar and create a good working environment with a focus on healthy indoor air quality,” says Carsten Filbært, Head of Construction at BAUHAUS Danmark A/S.

In his speech, Carsten Filbært also expressed special thanks to DS Flexhal’s project managers, Brian Mikkelsen and Mads Mikkel Hjort Kjær, for their daily efforts and management of the construction site. With the wreath raised and the hot-dog stand in place, it was also a fitting opportunity to thank the craftspeople in attendance for their efforts and the excellent cooperation on the construction site. Cheers were given for both the craftspeople and the building, and Lars Smedegaard presented DS Flexhal’s tradition with the words: “May this house stand for as many years as the glass shatters into pieces.”Afterwards, Carsten Filbært and project manager Brian Mikkelsen led plenty of toasts.

Jonas Bang Eriksen, Sales Director at DS Flexhal, also commented on the event:

“A topping-out ceremony is always a special occasion because it allows us to see the project taking shape while coming together to recognise all the hard work behind it. We are delighted with our collaboration with BAUHAUS Danmark A/S and proud to be helping realise a building that supports both their current needs and their future development in Tilst.

”Brian Mikkelsen and Mads Mikkel Hjort Kjær are now looking forward to continuing work on the building. There are still many details to finalise before handover, and the team is focused on maintaining momentum, ensuring a smooth process and preserving the strong collaboration all the way to the finish line.

Thank you to the tradespeople for their hard work, and thank you to BAUHAUS Danmark A/S for placing their trust in us.
