Louise Saugmann Philipsen was an intern as a graduate engineer at DS Elcobyg
Today, Louise is employed as a design office engineer at DS Elcobyg.
I did my internship at DS Elcobyg while I was in my 5th semester of the Bachelor of Engineering in Civil/Building Engineering programme at Aarhus University. Alongside my 6th and 7th semesters, I was employed as a student assistant at DS Elcobyg.
When I started the internship, I was welcomed well and quickly felt comfortable in my new everyday life at DS Elcobyg.
I was assigned a mentor (Mikkel Roskjær Bogner), who has himself been an intern at DS Elcobyg, so he knew what programme I had to go through, and he was always available if I had questions.
Learning through responsibility
I was given a lot of responsibility from the start. I was put on my own case, where, in collaboration with my mentor, I got to calculate the project through. It was incredibly instructive to be thrown into things.
During the internship, I got to see theory become reality, since the production is located right next to the office, so there was always the opportunity to go out and see the concrete elements being cast.
Colleague camaraderie after work
The social side was really good at DS Elcobyg, where we often played padel tennis after work. There were also events where, among other things, we went bowling and to a shooting range.

What could YOU become at DS Elcobyg?
Building constructor, civil engineer, design office engineer…
DS Elcobyg produces and supplies concrete elements for larger and smaller residential construction projects, as well as commercial, institutional and agricultural buildings.
We don’t just sell concrete. We create individual solutions that give every single customer the optimal building. Our deliveries take place in close collaboration with contractors, tradespeople, designers and developers. We are often advisory from the earliest phases of idea development and design – and all the way to the finish line.
As an intern at our design office, you get the opportunity to test your skills in the real world. Depending on your field of study, you will become acquainted with making production drawings, dimensioning concrete elements and calculating reinforcement, etc. You will be assigned your own project and, with a colleague backing you up, you will get to manage all processes in close collaboration with our customers or their advisers and our own production.
