Communications intern at DS Gruppen
Mathilde Haugstrup From Andersen was in the middle of her professional bachelor’s degree in communication at the Danish School of Media and Journalism when she did her internship at DS Gruppen.
The most important thing I take away from my internship at DS Gruppen is the ability to find my place in a (larger) organisation. During my internship, I collaborated with many different people with different professional backgrounds, and in that way I got a really good insight into what I bring to the table in a team, and how I work best together with other disciplines. I learned a great deal about my own role – as a communications employee in my case – and gained a much better understanding of what it actually is I am training to become!
The most fun thing about being an intern at DS Gruppen was that I got to throw myself into lots of different tasks and take responsibility for my own projects. As an intern, there is room to experiment while at the same time taking part in the daily work. For example, I helped arrange an event for students all the way from idea development to execution and holding the event, which was something I had never tried before. I was also given responsibility for building a landing page for the website from scratch in collaboration with an external agency. This not only gave me practical experience with concrete work tasks, but also a better idea of what I want to work with in the future – and what I don’t want to work with.
The most instructive part of my internship at DS Gruppen was spending everyday life at the office and learning from my colleagues. I was welcomed with open arms and felt like an integrated part of the marketing team from day one. Not least, I could tell that I had joined a team of really skilled professionals who were at the same time humble and willing to share their knowledge. I think an internship gives a unique opportunity to learn from people from the industry – in the industry – and that is what I feel I have gotten the most out of.
